The Minister of Environment, Energy and Climate Change Tina Birbili presented development program particularly in the field of green energy. The over-ambitious target of the Ministry of Environment of Tina Birbili is to develop investment plans, related mainly to green energy, for the amount of € 45 billion and to open 210,000 jobs, of which 27,000 will be permanent appointments.
The program of the Minister was presented to public organizations, and its main pillars are:
Adaptation to climate change and transition to a competitive economy, which will decrease the use of coal. Policies will be taken to improve energy efficiency, increase energy potential in the country from renewable energy sources and natural gas, secure energy supply, the supply of reliable energy products and services to consumers and promote environmentally sound patterns of production and consumption through green public contracts. The total budget of investments included in the relevant pillar is € 31.8 billion and it is expected to create over 169,000 jobs.
Sustainable management and protection of natural resources: This pillar will include activities to protect and improve biodiversity, management and protection of water resources and forests as well as planning of rapid action to deal with threats and crises related to the environment. The investment budget included in this pillar is € 2.3 billion and it is expected to create 11,000 jobs.
Improvement in quality of life through environmental protection: The actions the Ministry of Environment planned in the third pillar aim to improve people’s quality of life by promoting sustainable development while ensuring environmental protection at the same time. The program provided for the implementation of the objectives of this pillar includes interventions to revive the big cities - not only capital but also cities in the country. The budget amounts to € 9.5 billion and will create 30,000 jobs.
Strengthening of mechanisms and institutions for environmental management: The fourth pillar of the program aims to enhance environmental management through actions which main priorities are to strengthen institutions and mechanisms for environmental management through interventions, but also through investments strengthening their material but also human resources. The budget amounts to € 846.7 million and is expected to create over 2400 jobs.
