About 60 anarchists gathered outside Alexis Tsipras’ house in Kipseli and spray-painted slogans on the walls of the security booth in front of the building. During the protest organised on Friday afternoon the anarchists raised placards and chanted slogans in support of prisoners on hunger strike, demanding the release of Savvas Xiros and the closure of strictly guarded prisons.

Meanwhile, ATMs and a small truck in Attica were set on fire this morning. Within 40 minutes, unknown persons attacked 4 ATMs and a supermarket truck in five separate districts of Athens.

Mega TV reports that the attacks began at 2:27 am when the first target was an ATM on Panagi Tsaldari Street in Kipseli, then subsequently, at 2:25 am, a truck on Ethnikis Antistaseos Street was set on fire, at 2:40 am an ATM on Grigoriou Afxentiou Street in Zografou, at 2:38 am an ATM on Irinis Avenue in Pefki and at 3:07 am an ATM on Dionisou Street in Maroussi.

The police have found no residues of flammable materials in any of the places.

The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination today was marked by protest events in Athens, Thessaloniki, Patras and Chania.

There were two different processions in Athens. One set off to Omonia Square and was organised by the members of public and non-governmental organisations whereas the other involved the members of the Network for the Protection of Children’s Rights and it set off to the government building.

A demonstration organised by the movement "United against racism and the fascist threat" and trade unions started in Omonia Square at 2:00 pm.

In Thessaloniki, the meeting took place at the monument of Venizelos, in Patras in Georghiou Square and in Chania in Agoras Square.

All of them demanded the closure of detention centres for immigrants, granting citizenship to the children of immigrants and the conviction of Golden Dawn.

On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, President Prokopis Pavlopoulos addressed the nation, "As Greeks, based on our cultural and democratic tradition, we have proven in many ways that we abhor and condemn racism and xenophobia".

Deputy Minister of Citizen Protection Yannis Panousis also made a statement on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, noting that this day "shows how important it is to think about the consequences of racism, which can be devastating to society." He stressed that "racism as an idea and behaviour is used to induce fear and hatred towards particularly vulnerable groups, thereby undermining the unity of society. The most extreme criminal behaviour is fuelled by racist motives and prejudice."

As Panousis pointed out, the Ministry was implementing a new policy that would contribute to the common struggle for the eradication of racism, xenophobia and racial discrimination. "Together we can create a common front, so that racism is not prejudicial to peace, security, justice, progress and prosperity. A common front for a society in the centre of which is humanism and respect for personal rights," said Panousis.
