Two police officers from the antiterrorist department turned out to be treasure-hunters, involved in a criminal group from Nafplio, and their names are directly associated with the recently murdered businessman George Kotsakis. A 45-year-old police officer from the antiterrorist department in the provincial town, together with his 25-year-old female colleague, are supposed to have participated in Kotsakis's treasure-hunting group. The main activity of the entrepreneur, who was killed on 12 July this year, was related to management of nightclubs and restaurants. He was shot with four bullets at his home - one in the neck, two in the head and one in the elbow. According to the pathologist's report, the death was sudden, and the weapon used to commit the crime is a "Scorpion" gun.
The two police officers attracted the attention of the investigation after a metal detector and other treasure-hunting equipment were found in their official car, which they have used frequently for travelling on official business around Greece. However, instead of pursuing and protecting against criminal organizations, threatening the national security, the antiterrorists have toured the country to seek still undiscovered archaeological treasures, which they have sold on the black market. The same two police officers are also key witnesses in the investigation of the murder of businessman George Kotsakis, with whom they are supposed to have cooperated in selling the precious antique finds. They have been members of the antiterrorist department, which is in direct connection with the U.S. Embassy, informs To Vima. The main suspect of the crime is another accomplice of theirs, whose identity has not yet been announced. Greek media have delveloped the theory that most likely the question of how to divide the profit from the antiques, sold on the black market, had led to a quarrel, which happened to be fatal for Kotsakis.
