51 prominent businessmen, managers and members of boards of large companies and lawyers called for a "government of emergency and national reorganization" a day before the critical vote for the adoption of the mid-term austerity plan by the Greek Parliament. In a letter to the media entitled "Do Dare", they refer mostly to the Members of Parliament and call them "to form a government of emergency and national reorganization." In other words, they indirectly ask the lawmakers not to vote for the mid-term austerity plan and to form a government of persons not participating in parties, who are not the "favourites" of the system and are not members of the parliament, but of persons having the faith, experience, the capability to manage and the courage to succeed in their mission.

The former CEO of the Public Power Corporation DEI and a senior member of Toyota Europe Takis Athanasopoulos, the former CEO of the National telecom OTE Lefteris Andonakopoulos, the president of Emporiki Bank Nikos Embeoglou, the ship-owner Nikolaos Lemos, the businessman and chairman of the Greek - German Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mihalis Maillis, the economic adviser and a former IMF executive Miranda Ksafa, the lawyer and president of the Greek-British Chamber of Commerce and Industry Harris Ikonomopoulos, the banker and former governor of the Bank of Greece Stathis Papageorgiou and other lawyers and businessmen signed the letter.

The letter of appeal states:

"Do Dare!

We join our 32 fellow intellectuals and artists and call the political leadership to dare change all that led to today's tragic situation of the country.

But we would like to make a particular appeal:

Let the political leadership dare tell the Greeks the obvious truth that it is not possible the state to continue to spend more money than it collects. That if we are willing to stop being pathetic beggars to our creditors, giving them part of our national independence out of necessity, it must stop now, not after 3-4 years.

Let the political leadership dare tell the Greeks the obvious truth that the solution for a family that spends more than it earns is cutting unnecessary costs, and not the uncertain attempt to increase revenues. Similarly, the safe solution for the state is to cut all costs that are not absolutely necessary and not to attempt to increase tax revenues.

Let the political leadership dare tell the Greeks the obvious truth that to be able to crown an effort with success you should believe in it and have the necessary experience. Let the Parliament form a government of emergency and national reorganization that should consists only of people who do not participate in parties, who are not the "favourites" of the system and are not lawmakers, but people having the faith, experience, the capability to manage and the courage to succeed in their mission."
