In the October Saturday night may Athenian are in the modern district of Gazi. This time, however the reason for this is not entertainment that Gazi offers, but a journey into the future with digital technology. I’m talking about Athens Digital Week 2010. The festival is held for the third consecutive year on the initiative of the Municipality of Athens. This year, it lasts from 7.10 to 10.10. Each year thousands of visitors get informed there about the latest Digital Technologies and achievements of world science applied in Greece. This time the festival of technology is accompanied by numerous exhibitions, lectures, presentations, screenings and workshops. The aim of the sponsors is for the people to see the latest products of technology even before they have reached the shelves of the shops.

In the exhibitions of the festival can see the latest achievements of robotics. In one of the halls we are even symbolically greeted by the charming moonrover, character from the movie "Star Wars". Robotics, a constant subject of books and movies in Athens Digital Week 2010 is displayed in the form of robots rescuers, robots guards, robot football players and even sumo wrestlers. From up close visitors can see with their own eyes robots fishes, and humanoid robots.

Of interest are the "smart" clothes which detect wireless networks in the area and special devices that help everyone to reduce environmental pollution. At the festival can be seen, of course, and the latest trends in the field of gaming. For those interested to learn more about digital technology are conducted special lectures. It is expected to have also lectures on science fiction and to be discussed theories about the evolution of social networks.

This year for the first time Athens Digital Week offers Digital Classroom, digital training room with smart boards which are a substitute for the blackboards. There are also exhibited intelligent e-learning tools which promise that after several years the normal school bags will be only a memory of the past.

Athens Digital Week 2010 draws particular attention to the cinema in the area of science fiction. In the late autumn evening, many citizens of the capital have taken their places before the movie screen and have taken the path to the digital journey.

Athens Digital Week organizes also a special Digital concert. On stage in Technopolis already sang Big Fat Lips, Eskaei, Costas Stratudakis and in the last night his music presented GDaddie.
