The preparation for the most favorite holiday of young and older in Athens is running full power. For the first time, the Christmas and New Year events will not be restricted only in the city center but will spread around all Athenian neighborhoods.
It is a tradition that the center of the holiday events between December 7 and January 6, is Syntagma Square. Here a Christmas tree will be placed, which will be made out of 250 small firs! The municipality is planning to plant them after the holidays in the region, which was burnt this summer. Numerous special facilities will be installed around the Christmas tree. Intended is a stage that will host musical events and games for children. All streets will be overflowing with music by famous Greek artists and DJs. Wine and sweets will accompany the music fiesta.
The Botanical Garden will once again transform into a favorite place for all citizens and visitors of the capital. Many theatrical plays, games and music will entertain everybody. From December 20 “Enchanting forest” will be here once again. In it the young visitors will be able to take a tour of the many small houses, where they will be able to learn how the holiday is celebrated in different countries around the world. They will decorate trees, sing songs, send letters to Santa Clause and he on the other hand will tell them fairy tales and miracle stories. “Enchanting forest” opens on December 18 and will work all day from 10:00AM until 05:00PM.
Famous DJs will play on different parties in Gazi. Kanari Square in Kipseli will host many holiday events, which will be opened by the orchestra of Athens municipality on December 16 at 07:00PM. Santa Clause will greet children on Sotiros Square in Kolonos. The opening is on December 16 at 07:00PM with DJ Yannis Moutsakos.
A special music program is planned for New Year ’s Eve, in which participating will be Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of conductor Lefteris Kalkanis and Mixed Choir of Athens, tenors Nikos Stefanos, Dimitris Kasioumis, Yannis Hristopoulos and Stamatis Beris.
