The Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense are preparing an operation for the return of the Greek citizens in the territory of Egypt. Greek authorities are in a constant contact with the embassy in Cairo, with the communities in the capital and in Alexandria, as well as with the patriarchate and so far there is no evidence of Greek victims. In the operation will take part the transport planes C130 and it will be initiated when all details are set for a successful end. The coordination of the negotiations is led by the Deputy Foreign Minister Dimitris Dolis.
So far for the Greeks in Egypt is issued an order to stay home because the situation is unsettled. The Greek schools in the north African country remained closed for a week now. Tanks entered the streets of Cairo, and warplanes hover in the sky at a moment when at the central Tahrir Square have gathered thousands of protesters against the authoritarian regime of the 82-year-old President Hosni Mubarak. Since the beginning of the insurrections 102 people were killed, the wounded exceeded two thousand, and over three thousand people have been arrested in recent days.
Both ministries keep in touch also with the other countries that are in the process of carrying out a military operation to retrieve their citizens from the rebellious Arab country. Turkey decided to send three aircraft to get their citizens from Egypt, reported the Anatolian news agency. Many countries like USA, Britain and France issued formal recommendations to their citizens to avoid traveling to the Arab country.
