Microsoft Corporation founder, Bill Gates, and Madonna have showed interest in purchasing the island, one owned by the late Aristotle Onassis. Bill Gates is ready to pay €120mil to buy the island.

Scorpio Island, bought by Onassis in 1962 for €8000 has never been on the market before. The 3 000 acres island is located in the Ionian Sea, near Levkada, and is entirely private property, except two beaches which can be freely reached by boat. On the island three villas, a chapel, a small yacht club and a rocky pier can be seen. In one of the villas, Onassis married Jacqueline Kennedy.

The conditions of the island inheritance are now being clarified. According to Onassis, if his heirs are not able to maintain the island, it should pass under state property and turn into residence for the Greek president. Another option is for the island to become part of Olympic Company, founded by Onassis. In this case, camping areas and summer camps should be organized for the children of Olympic employees.

Tens of island in Greece are privately owned and after a law-alteration from last year, they can now be bought by foreigners, too. Greece is considered a great location to own an island in, since it unifies an impressive history, sights and abundance of small islands, perfect for activities such as sailing, which provides remarkable views of idealistic nature full of olive and lemon woods and oleanders. It is not by accident that Paloma Picasso, the daughter of the famous artist, owns the west Petalus Island, located close to the continent, bought at the price of $2mil.
