The prosecution in Thessaloniki is investigating a case of baby abuse committed by a 62-year-old nanny.

The case became known after a family of lawyers charged their babysitter for having abused their 19-month-old daughter while they were away. The couple confirmed this with a two-hour mobile phone recording.

They reported the case to the Evozmos police station. First, they had noticed that their child had started to behave in a bizarre way.

According to the family, the child started hitting them without reason, and reacted violently when they tried to change her nappy. She also had bruises and scratches on her hips. WHen, however, the girl got bruises around her eyes, the parents decided to rig the room with a mobile phone. The recording confirmed their suspicions: it showed how the babysitter was threatening and hitting the baby for more than two hours while she was crying. The injuries were confirmed by the coroner after a checkup of the child.

The nanny was arrested the day after the alert, but was later released because the forensic results had not yet been applied. However, the prosecutor ordered a preliminary investigation.

In response, the babysitter accused the father of false allegations. He was detained, but was released two hours later.
