Four armed man robbed a bank branch on the Cycladic island of Paros this morning, leaving behind a dead body. The incident happened in the town of Naoussa at 8:20 am. To Vima newspaper reported that it was the Agricultural Bank’s branch, according to Kathimerini it was Eurobank’s, whereas Ethnos newspaper reported it was a branch of Alpha Bank. It became clear later that it was Alpha Bank’s branch.
The criminals were armed with Kalashnikovs and stole 45 thousand euro. A taxi happened to stand in their way upon leaving the bank. Its driver realized that they were robbers and tried to stop them, but the criminals did not hesitate and shot him point blank in the head. The man died on the spot, witnesses testified, who had also tried to chase the robbers, but without success. The victim was Dimitris Mihas, aged 53, the husband of the youngest daughter of singer Vicky Mosholiou.
Shortly after the incident, police found the car used by the criminals. It was burned and left in an inlet near Naoussa, just across from Naxos, which is another Cycladic island. Police believe the criminals had immediately left Paros and went to Naxos by ferry. The official release of the Greek police reads that a specialized team from the Security Office in the Attica area has been sent to the islands of Paros and Naxos to capture the offenders as soon as possible. A helicopter, boats and military trained dogs are available to the special police officers, who will stay on the Cycladic islands until they break up the criminal gang. Police are asking citizens who can provide even a minimum amount of information on the case to call 210-6411111.
The police are investigating a possible link between the bloody robbery of today and the robbery of a branch of Alpha Bank on the island of Spetses on 16 July. Three armed men and a woman robbed the bank at that time and escaped by a speedboat, which they burned afterwards.
