"Welcome, Berbatov number 10". This slogan and a photo of the jersey posted on the Facebook page of PAOK football club in Thessaloniki informed its fans as to the number that the lead striker will wear next season.

His official presentation attracted hundreds of team fans to the Tumba stadium where there was a large poster with the image and name of the lead striker.

The three stands at Tumba stadium were full long before the presentation while fans were lining up at three of the entrances to the stadium. There was a mess in the team shop due to the large number of fans who wanted to buy a shirt with Berbatov’s image and number.

Dimitar Berbatov crossed the Bulgarian-Greek border at Promachonas at 2:30 pm, as announced by the Greek football news site metrosport.gr. The fans of the Thessaloniki team were already awaiting him there and welcomed him with chants, "PAOK ole" and "Go ahead, dude, smash the port," which is how they call Olympiakos football club in Piraeus, as they consider it to be the main opponent of their favourite team in the Greek football championship.

Dimitar Berbatov set foot in the stadium shortly after 4:30 pm. The fans chanted, "Go ahead, dude, smash the port," and "The Bulgarian is crazy."

"Thank you for the incredible welcome. I was not expecting it. I am just an ordinary man who plays football and thank you for the reception. My father was born about 50 kilometres away from the border. Therefore, I would say that we are like brothers. And like brothers support each other, I will fight for you, like brothers.

I am grateful to Mr. Savidis for his insistence for me to come here. To see how special this place is, with its enthusiasm and history, especially in view of the forthcoming celebration of the 90th anniversary of the club," said Dimitar Berbatov to PAOK fans.

They responded to him with enthusiastic chants. Then the Bulgarian striker signed autographs.

Thousands of cameras and smartphones were in the air to take a photo of the football super star. In turn, Dimitar Berbatov took a photo of the fans with his smartphone and then gave it to a person from the team to take a picture of him against the background of the enthusiastic audience.
