Three were killed and four injured in an accident after pursuing a car carrying illegal immigrants in Alexandroupoli.
According to police at 3.10 pm on Sunday at the southern junction Likofis it was established that a car was carrying immigrants. Police pursuit was initiated by the Border Police - Soufli.
Just before it gets on the Egnatia motorway the car with illegal immigrants hits a Frontex car with three policemen inside, without injuring any of them.
Then the car full of immigrants goes off the motorway and overturns in the nearby field where it ignites.
Next to the car were found six seriously injured immigrants (four men and two women). They were taken to the hospital of Alexandroupoli, where the death of two of the men was announced.
Also, after the fire is extinguished, found on the driver's seat was a charred body of a man, who is believed to be the trafficker.
The severely wounded immigrants (two men and two women) were admitted to the hospital of Alexandroupoli, where they are guarded by police.
Last night another incident happened, this time in Athens. There was an explosion in a tavern in the Kallithea district on the corner of "Galatias" and "Evangelistrias" streets, which resulted in a woman being killed and three other people being injured.
According to initial information, the explosion was caused by a gas leak, which initially caused a fire. When they arrived at the scene fire fighters took out a woman’s body from the tavern, which subsequently proved to be that of the tavern owner.
The tavern was open, but there were no customers, and the blast was so powerful that it fully destroyed the restaurant. Surrounding buildings have suffered damage as well.
The 48-year-old owner of the tavern was killed and one wounded person is still unidentified. He was rushed to hospital but he is out of danger.
The reasons for the explosion are under investigation.
Meanwhile, the police are searching for a driver of a car because of a bloody incident in which a foreigner was murdered with a firearm and two other foreigners were injured - one by a firearm and the other hit by a car.
According to initial information, shortly after 8 am Sunday, a car hit a 53-year-old man of Albanian origin, who was taken to "Attica” hospital.
On the scene of the accident sharp words were exchanged between the driver of the car and bystanders.
Subsequently, according to police, the driver left the scene. A little later on 22 "Sevastoupoleos" street, in Menidi, he fatally shot a 58-year-old foreigner of Albanian origin and wounded another man in the leg, who is of Pakistani origin.
Both were taken to "Evangelismos" hospital, where the 58-year-old man died. The Pakistani citizen wounded in the leg remains hospitalised for treatment but his condition is not life-threatening.
Officers arrived at the crime scene to take statements from witnesses in order to clarify what happened during the bloody incident.
Police are looking for the driver of the car, who according to eyewitnesses is a Greek citizen.
Last night another incident was recorded. At 4 am in the Athens district of Kifissia, unknown people spilled highly flammable liquid on four parked cars and set them on fire.
The cars were parked on the corner of the streets "Levidou" and "Mirsinis”. The flames completely destroyed five of them, while the remaining five suffered less damage.
Fire fighters extinguished the flames and an investigation is being undertaken by the security forces.
