Tragic is the end of the case of the two missing men from Messolonghi, aged 35 and 40, who have been found dead.

A passer-by noticed in the morning the car of the two men, overturned in a ditch between the villages of Lessini and Katohi, and informed the police.

The initial data indicate a car crash. The two men were found dead, trapped in the car, and an operation was subsequently launched to take out their bodies. Since journalists, TV cameras and people arrived at the scene, the firefighters covered with two large panels the place where the car was found, because the scene was terrific.

The police statement reads, "The car of the two Greek nationals who disappeared early in the morning of 1 January in the region of Etoliko was found a while ago in a ditch near the village of Katohi, Aetolia-Acarnania Region. The bodies of the two men were found inside the car and were taken out by the fire brigade."

Two ambulances arrived at the scene to transport the bodies of the two men to the hospital that will perform an initial microscopic examination and then subsequently, the bodies will be taken to the forensic medicine office of Patras.

It will carry out an autopsy to clarify the cause of death of both men. According to sources, when the firefighters have completed their work, the police will continue the investigation in the area.

The two friends disappeared four days ago. To recall that on New Year’s Eve, Yiannis and Vassilis were seen for the last time in the village of Pendalofo, Aetolia-Acarnania Region, where they arrived to have fun but then their tracks were lost.

Video cameras on the road to the village of Lessini have records of their vehicle, a black Toyota Corolla with registration plate ΑΙΚ 7885. The camera recordings of the car of the two men are available to the police and they are seeking witnesses who could provide information about what had happened. The strange thing is that two cameras at a distance of 4 km recorded the car with a difference of 12 minutes. This fact is raising questions as normally this distance can be travelled in 3-4 minutes.

An operation to search the river with boats and divers had been launched Saturday that was terminated on Sunday due to bad weather. The authorities began to search the river Achelous today again but the overturned car of the two men was found shortly afterwards.
