Bodyguard beat to death a young man in the centre of Athens

The young man had accompanied a friend of his who had set off to a restaurant near Omonia Square in the centre of Athens to ask its owner to pay her the due salary. Instead of giving her the small sum the restaurant owner made ​​a bodyguard beat the young man. After the beating, he was taken to hospital where he died.

The crime took place on Geraniou street near the central Athens square. The police report that the killed young man lived in the town of Pyrgos in the Peloponnese and was in Athens to accompany a relative during his visit to hospital.

Two days earlier, he had met with a friend and the girl at a cafe. During the conversation, she told them that the owner of the restaurant on Geraniou street where she had worked until recently owed ​​her part of her salary. The two young men offered to go with her and ask for the money.

However, when they went to the restaurant and the girl asked the owner for the money he called the bodyguard and told him to "solve the problem".

The 39-year-old bouncer quarreled with the young man as soon as he arrived and started punching him and kicking him in the head. He was wearing knuckle-duster gloves. The young man lost consciousness and fell down onto the ground but the bodyguard continued kicking him.

Witnesses of the beating had immediately called the police and DIAS police officers had arrived and apprehended the bodyguard at the scene. A little later, policemen from the "Crimes against life" department arrested the restaurant owner, who has been charged with inciting crime.

According to the forensic expertise, the 28-year-old man died of severe cranial traumas.
