The police investigation to uncover the perpetrators of the murder of the 65-year-old man whose body was found yesterday in a freezer in the Athens suburb of Kallithea is in full swing. The victim is a 65-year-old Greek citizen, a retired sailor who was put in the freezer with his hands and feet bound and mouth wrapped with adhesive tape. On the walls of the freezer, the authorities have found drops of blood.

The autopsy performed by the forensic shows that the body had remained in the freezer for a year. The investigating authorities note that the time coincides with the period in which the victim’s brother reported him missing.

The Greek police have suspicions that the offender is a Bulgarian woman, aged 45, with which the 65-year-old man cohabitated. Both have a son, aged 13, and a few days before the man disappeared, the woman left for Bulgaria with the boy and has not returned to Greece since.

Attica police station has informed Interpol, requesting that she be found in Bulgaria. It is expected that an investigation will take place in her place of origin in cooperation with the Bulgarian authorities.

The Greek media report that the murder is directly related to a sum of 230,000 euro. The victim’s father and the child’s grandfather who died in the meantime had deposited the money in a bank account of the minor son of the couple. Both parents were co-holders of the account.

The police believe that the woman took the money and left for Bulgaria with her child a year ago. The victim’s brother informed the police about the disappearance of the 65-year-old man at that time too. It is worth noting that the Greek authorities are investigating the 27-year-old son of the woman from her first marriage.

According to sources, the couple separated about three months before the man disappeared. After the separation, he moved to another flat on Aristotle Street in Kallithea. The Greek authorities have data on the very poor relations between the two. They are looking for clues about how the man had found himself in his previous flat on the day of the murder, not excluding the probability of having gone there to see his child. The victim’s brother was aware of the conflicts between the couple and presented them in his testimony.

To recall that the case was revealed after the owner of the flat on 37 Evangelistrias Street in Kallithea triggered the eviction procedures on the Bulgarian tenant, as he had had no contact with her for a long time.

A bailiff entered the abandoned flat with the help of a locksmith and found the body in the freezer.
