The anticipated Greek cabinet reshuffle has been completed. Former Minister of Development Nikos Dendias has been appointed head of the Ministry of Defence in place of Dimitris Avramopoulos whereas New Democracy member Costas Skrekas, aged 41, from Trikala, will fill his post.
Dimitris Avramopoulos will officially resign tomorrow in order to assume his duties as a Commissioner for Migration and Internal Affairs. This is the highest position of responsibility occupied by a Greek representative in the European Commission.
For Nikos Dendias, the Ministry of Defence will be the third consecutive office, which he will head after the elections in June 2012. Initially, he was Minister of Public Order and Citizens Protection. Dendias held that post until this June when he was appointed Minister of Development and he will take an oath as Minister of Defence next Monday. As for Costas Skrekas, his appointment in the Ministry of Development is his first participation in the government.
Despite the information on replacing the government spokesman, Minister of Interior and Deputy Minister of Development, Sofia Voultepsi, Argyris Dinopoulos and Gerasimos Yiakoumatos for now remain on their posts.
