The beginning of the world campaign “1GOAL Education for all” in Greece was announced by the president of the board of directors of ActionAid for Greece Alexandra Mitsotaki, the president of the Hellenic football federation Sofoklis Pilavios, the Head director of the Super League Patrick Komninos and Mariana Vardinoyani (UNESCO). At the conference held in Zappeion hall they presented the program which will accompany the implementation of the campaign of world wide importance and they called for assistance by all Greek citizens. “1GOAL Education for all” which is held in over 200 countries aims at collecting signatures from all over the world which will help millions of children around the world to get access to education. The signatures collected will be submitted to the United Nations in September this year when an assessment will be made on the achievement of the Goals for development of the millennium set by the United Nations in the year 2000. Two of these goals were related exactly to the education – all children around the world to get access to basic education and to eliminate the gender discrimination in the basic education by 2005 and then by 2015 at all educational levels. The signatures collected at the time of the campaign from all over the world will be a driving force in the policy of the governments in the countries for educating all children around the world by 2015. In Greece the campaign is organized with the assistance of ActionAid Hellas under the aegis of UNESCO and with the support of the Hellenic football federation and the Super League.

The last two will support the event by mobilizing their audience on the stadiums as well as those in front of the TV screens. As Mr. Sofoklis Pilavios, president of the football federation said – “Time has come for action, so that the introduction of the greatest football event in Africa to leave there not only the sport success, but also the inheritance of the education which will remain after the end of the championship”. The Hellenic football federation will cooperate for the campaign through events organized at the time of the finals for the Greek Cup, at the time of All Star and at the time of the friendly game of the national team in the beginning of March. During the world football championship in South Africa the campaign will be supported on an international level by FIFA.

75 million children and 774 million grown ups is the number of illiterate today….

“In 2010 when the world produces so many goods, when a great success has been achieved in the knowledge, science and technology this could be the greatest injustice… Without any education the children are growing up with no future, no perspective, no hope” – said Alexandra Mitsotaki and called for the vote of every citizen instead of the call of the children whose voice is never heard. To write their names instead of those who cannot do that….
