The trial for the murder of 15-year-old Alexis Grigoropulos was postponed until Friday - January 22. The murder took place on December 6, 2008 in the Exarhia neighborhood in Athens.

Today the Court of First Instance was in session for the first time in the case against Epaminondas Korkoneas. The lawyer of the accused failed to appear hearing was rescheduled for January 22, 2010

Court hearing took place under heavy police supervision. The police meticulously inspected all present in the courtroom and the procedure was followed strictly by the Special Forces. The Trial Chamber consisted of a Chairman and four members. Alexis Kuyas - lawyer of the accused Epaminondas Korkoneas was not present. His representative said that Mr. Kuyas is involved with another trial today and since the other process is expected to rule on a decision, his presence there was necessary.

Kuyas did not appear in court, which was the reason for the interruption of the case and it will continue after the three days - on January 22. As expected Gina Tsalikyan - mother of 15-year-old Alexis, did not attend the trial. She was presented by one of her lawyers. He presented documents, which proved that the grandmother of the slain boy has been in the hospital since January 11.

In a proxy to the attorney Ms. Tsilikyan announced that her absence is temporary and as soon as possible she will testify. The medical documents from the hospital say that on January 14, which was the surgery day of the grandmother, doctors describe her serious health condition and consider indispensable the presence of her family. According to the lawyer, the mother of Alexis will be able to appear in court soon.

The session continued for 20 minutes and after a ten minute break, the court declared that according to Article 402 of the Criminal Procedure Code, the case cannot be postponed for longer than three days.

After the hearing about 100 demonstrators had gathered at the square in the city and they were surrounded by special forces police, in order to avoid clashes.
