By apprehending terrorist Christodoulos Xiros on Saturday the Greek police had prevented a large-scale attack against Korydallos prison. According to unnamed sources from the office quoted by the Greek daily Kathimerini, the attack had been planned for Sunday evening.

Xiros’ plan was presented at a press conference by Minister of Public Order and Citizens Protection Vassilis Kikilias and Police Director Dimitris Tsaknakis.

The plans and notes found at the terrorist’s lodgings make it clear that the attack would have taken place over "the next few days." They also reveal that it would have been completed with two cars. One would have to transfer the explosives to the prison, and the other a group of armed attackers. According to Tsaknakis, the completion of such an operation requires the involvement of at least six people.

The purpose of the planned pogrom was the "release of prisoners," namely the members of the terrorist group "Conspiracy of Fire Nuclei" who are in Korydallos prison, as stated by the director of the Greek police.

In the hideaway in Anavyssos, the authorities have found a fake identification card of a woman who is suspected to have been Xiros’ assistant. According to the anti-terrorism service, she and the 30-year-old man who had rented the house are the key links in the operational team of the terrorists.

During the search, the members of the service found an arsenal of weapons, including the following: eight Kalashnikov guns, one antitank grenade launcher and three rockets, three pistols, self-defence grenades, and materials for making bombs, namely 23 detonators and ANFO explosive, gun silencers, a large number of chargers, phone cards, mobile phones and other small items necessary for the production of explosives. In the courtyard, they found bags of cement and sand. Assumingly, they were to act as a wall to direct the explosion to the building during the attack on the prison.

In addition to the house in Anavyssos, the authorities are investigating the regions of Egio and Loutraki where they are looking for two women who had had contact with Xiros in the period when he was followed by the antiterrorists. Assumingly, it was a hiding place for terrorists, including the members of the "Group of People’s Fighters" who carried out the armed attack against the Embassy of Israel less than a month ago. It is expected that ballistic testing will confirm the assumptions.

At the same time, the biological material taken from Christodoulos Xiros fully coincides with the material on a parcel bomb that was sent to the police station in Ithea on 29 April 2014. The makeshift explosive that was very powerful did not explode. It contained about a pound of explosive, a battery and detonator, as well as screws and nails. The responsibility for the attempted attack was assumed by "Conspiracy of Fire Nuclei".

It is expected that Xiros will testify today as his interrogation was formally postponed on Sunday. The reason was the preparation of the indictment after the statement of Xiros’ lawyer Frangiskos Ragousis that he did not intend to explain the situation before the judicial authorities.

The charges against Christodoulos Xiros are as follows:

- Management of a previously unknown terrorist group with unknown members with the purpose of producing, supplying and possessing explosives, and using them to jeopardize people and objects.

- Illegal possession of military rifles, ammunition, etc.

- Illegal possession of drilling and explosive projectiles.

- Forgery.

- Violation of the restrictive measures imposed on him.

- Illegal possession of a weapon, referring to the pistol with 14 cartridges that was found on him during the arrest.

The prosecutor's office in Athens has launched criminal proceedings, for concealment of a criminal, against three unknown persons, for whom there are data that they had rented the house in Anavyssos.
