Creditors want SYRIZA to split and a government of PASOK and Potami

"Tsipras has to decide whether he wants to be prime minister or the leader of SYRIZA", reads a publication in the British newspaper The Financial Times that makes projections for changes in the government coalition in Greece.

According to the newspaper, this is the solution that will allow Athens to reach an agreement with its creditors. The publication notes that a percentage of Europeans have drawn a bead on Independent Greeks and the left platform of Panagiotis Lafazanis, seeing that in order for the government of Tsipras to survive, he has to break away from those formations.

Especially with regard to the left platform, the article states that it acts as opposition since it "controls enough MPs to bring down the government if it were to rebel in a parliamentary vote."

Furthermore, the article quotes a senior SYRIZA representative who stresses, "We used to be more of a debating society than a political party... so it is hard to get a system of party discipline up and running. But you have to remember - we have been in power less than 100 days."

In a statement, a senior official in a euro zone finance ministry says that the government cannot survive with this composition and that the Prime Minister has to decide whether he wants to be one or just to remain the leader of SYRIZA.

The Financial Times article also notes that PASOK and the Potami party, founded by journalist Stavros Theodorakis, could be alternative partners of the SYRIZA government. However, it stresses that many voters consider PASOK as a symbol of corruption and of the old party system’s inability to act while, as regards Potami, it notes that the party leadership sets the conclusion of a framework agreement as a condition for any cooperation.

The publication of the newspaper mentions Greek Minister of Finance Yanis Varoufakis too, stating that "Europeans view him as lukewarm towards the future of Greece in the euro zone. He is frequently lecturing to his euro zone counterpart – a tendency that has alienated even potential allies."
