SYRIZA has kept its margin of 2.5 percentage points over New Democracy, according to the new and last pre-election survey carried out by GPO and aired by Mega TV on Friday evening. Golden Dawn and the PASOK-Democratic Left coalition are nearly on a par, too.
Voters' preferences are distributed as follows:
SYRIZA: 28.5%
New Democracy: 26%
Golden Dawn: 6.1%
PASOK-Democratic Left: 6%
Communist Party: 5.7%
Potami: 4.8%
Popular Unity: 3.9%
Independent Greeks: 3%
Union of centrists: 2.8%
I don't know / I'd rather not answer: 12%
SYRIZA has stepped up its voter mobilization to 65% against 60% 7 days ago. New Democracy voter readiness remains fairly high at 80%.
At the same time, SYRIZA's president has made progress as far as the answers to "Who in the role of prime minister can cope best with the memorandum?", are concerned: 34.5% against his 29.1% of last week. Evangelos Meimarakis got 30% this time (against 27% previously).
Alexis Tsipras has won the debate between the two, with 40% of the public thinking he was more convincing than Meimarakis. 35.4% of respondents preferred the New Democracy leader.
It should be noted that according to the poll Syriza's key election slogan "Old Versus New" has even less resonance among voters than a week ago. They are far more interested in who can better cope with the memorandum: 6 out of 10 respondents believe that this is the cornerstone of the election.
The poll carried out by another agency, RASS, shows that the battle for the top place and the composition of the new parliament (which may contain from 6 to 9 parties) will be determined by those who have not yet decided how to vote.
The data collected up until Friday give the following percentages to the parties:
SYRIZA: 28.2%
New Democracy: 27.5%
Golden Dawn: 6.7%
PASOK-Democratic Left: 6%
Communist Party: 5.4%
Potami: 4.1%
Popular Unity: 3%
Union of centrists 3%
Independent Greeks: 2.5%
Another party: 2.5%
Invalid / white ballot: 1.8%
I don't know / I'd rather not answer: 9.3%
The University of Macedonia poll shows a 2.5% lead for SYRIZA. For the sake of comparison, the UM's previous poll showed half a percentage lead of New Democracy. The poll was carried out for SKAI TV and gave the parties the following results:
SYRIZA: 31% (versus 29.5% last week)
New Democracy: 28.5% (30%)
Golden Dawn: 6.5% (6.5%)
PASOK-Democratic Left: 5% (5%)
Communist Party: 5% (5.5%)
Potami: 4.5% (5%)
Popular Unity: 3% (3%)
Union of centrists 3% (4%)
Another party: 3% (3%)
I don't know / I'd rather not answer: 8.5% (6%)
The poll explains the change in voter preferences with those who had initially decided not to vote. Apparently, SYRIZA was able to tap into some of them, while New Democracy has lost a bit of its support.
