The newly elected president of New Democracy, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, sent a message to the Greek Diaspora across the world, and specifically asked the US Greeks to take part in creating a new Greece. In a statement for the newspaper of the Greek diaspora in America, Ethnikos Kyrix (The National Herald), Mitsotakis emphasized his belief in national values and in the ability of the Greeks to rescue the country from national decline. He spoke about the battle that lies ahead, noting that in it the role of the diaspora is going to be more important than ever.
The New Democracy President emphasised that the Greeks in America have the strength, experience, success, and love for their old homeland. With these qualities, continued Mitsotakis, the Greeks of the diaspora can contribute to a new Greece – a competitive country, in which all citizens are equal. He stressed that he would not rest until all Greeks get the equal rights they are now deprived of.
Here is his address:
"Dear compatriots,
New Democracy has turned a new page with your help as well. The party has decided to take matters into its own hands. To trust itself over again.
With their strong participation in the elections, the party voters have passed the baton to a new generation – the generation of talent, of optimism and hope.
I believe the majority of the Greek people will follow suit at the next election – those who are indifferent to political labels, but share our national values and believe in our capabilities. The capabilities of the Greeks to save the country from crisis, despondence and national decline.
Greeks of America,
In this battle, which our people are going to wage, your role and contribution will be more valuable than ever. With your dynamism, experience, success and love for the motherland, you can provide the spark for a new Greece – competitive, with equal opportunities, prosperous, and fair to all its citizens.
You must know that I will always be your friend and ally.
And, indeed, I will not find peace before you obtain the rights you are now denied."
