Today former foreign minister Dora Bakoyanni became the second official candidate for the leadership place of New Democracy. Right after the elections Thessaloniki governor Panayotis Psomiadis was the first candidate. Other official candidates, who have not applied for the position yet, are believed to be former minister of culture Andonis Samaras and former minister of health Dimitris Avramopoulos. In this critical for New Democracy moment it is believed that their nominations will not get them the leadership because both of them have left the party, founded their own, haven’t managed to make it on their own and they have returned to New Democracy.
Tonight former number one diplomat and future leader of the Greek opposition announced that her main worry is New Democracy and her goal is to “being back trust and moral advantage in the party through transparency of political life, through honesty inside the party and in the whole political system.” “We need to understand the message of the Greek people from last elections, no matter how cruel it was,” says Dora Bakoyanni in her speech. She stressed that she want to look straight in the eyes of the Greek people and to tell them that the party will look forward to its next battle. “In order to change Greece, firstly we need to change ourselves,” said Bakoyannni.
The daughter of probably the most honest right politicvian in Greece Konstantinos Mitzotakis says that New Democracy does not need a new ideology, it ideology is “the modern social liberalism, which we need to defend with consistency and stability, with courage and self-confidence.” All sociological surveys until now point Dora Bakoyanni as a winner of Kostas Karamanlis’ heritage.
