One of the emblematic figures of the right Greek party New Democracy, former Foreign Minister, daughter of Honorary party President Konstantinos Mitsotakis and wife of assassinated by the terrorist organization "November 17" Pavlos Bakoyannis, is no longer a member of the party. At the suggestion of the chairman of New Democracy Antonis Samaras the parliamentary group of the party exclude her from its ranks and also from the party.
The reason – Bakoyannis’ decision to disobey the party's official line and to support the stringent financial measures of the Greek government, approved by the International Monetary Fund and the European Commission.
In a dramatic vote the Greek parliament approved the measures for financial stabilization of the government. Out of 296 MPs present 172 voted for, 121 voted against and three abstained. The three people who abstained are PASOK member and by a decision of the Speaker of Parliament Filipos Petsalnikos they were excluded from the party.
