Dora Bakoyannis, a former foreign minister and the likely Greek candidate for Commissioner, is becoming a grandmother again, wrote the Greek “Espresso”. According to the publication, her daughter Alexia Bakoyannis is five-months pregnant.

The father-to-be of the expected baby is Andreas Papadopoulos – a journalist and former speaker of the Democratic Left. He and Alexia have been in a relationship for three years now, but Alexia has been keeping her pregnancy a secret because, according to the Greek media, she doesn’t like speaking about her personal life.

The news, however, had been kept secret for a long time, but was revealed when the party deputy and future co-member of Andreas Papadopoulos, Spiros Likoudis, called him “father” at a recent political meeting. Soon after that Papadopoulos started receiving congratulations from a lot of his colleagues.

Alexia Bakoyannis is expecting her third child after the twins she gave birth to during her second marriage with the financial officer Manolis Varsos. Georgios and Teodora are now four years old.

Alexia's first marriage was with her mother’s close associate Dimitris Zafiriadis. She was at the age of 25 then and the marriage was considered one of the most significant political events. Two years later Bakoyannis and Zafiriadis split by mutual agreement. He continued working in her mother’s political office, while Alexia started working as a journalist in “Imerisia” as well as in the Public Relations department of FAGE dairy company.

During the next few years, the gossip columns in the Greek press were full of many stories about Alexa's various relationships. All this continued until she started having a relationship with the much older Manolis Varsos. According to the publications, her family reacted in a negative way at first. But Alexia listened to her heart and married Manolis in 2007 in a small wedding ceremony. Maid of honour was the famous TV presenter Olga Tremi.

The couple split up in 2012 after living together for over five years.

Dora Bakoyannis has two more grandchildren, the children of her son Kostas Bakoyannis, mayor of Karpenisi – the home town of her first husband, Pavlos Bakoyannis, murdered by the terrorist group “November 17”.
