An earthquake of 6.2 on the Richter scale was registered in Greece tonight. According to early reports from the Geodetic Institute of the Athens Observatory, the epicentre of the earthquake was in the sea east of Crete, at a depth of about 10 km.
Seismologist Efthimios Lekas reported that the quake was intensively felt on Crete, Rhodes and Karpathos. According to the scientist, the probability of this quake being the main one is great, as its epicentre coincides with the southern Greek tectonic arc.
The earthquake lasted for a long time, about 30 seconds, and raised the anxiety of the residents of the largest Cretan town of Iraklion, who went out into the street. So far, there have been no reports of casualties. An aftershock of 4.3 on the Richter scale occurred as well. The post-seismic activity is continuing.
To be continued.
