The elections for local authorities in Greece have started. The first round of the elections will end at 7:00 p.m. this evening, and the runoff election will be held next Sunday, on 25 May, together with the European Parliament elections. 1,441 representatives of parties, coalitions and movements will compete in the mayoral election, and 105 will compete for regional governors. 9,871,733 Greeks will vote for them, as well as European citizens residing in Greece, of which 4,779,471 are men and 5,092,262 are women. 108,691 young people who have just turned 18 will vote for the first time.
Of the 1,441, parties and formations involved in the mayoral election, only 626 participated in the previous local elections in 2010. The number of candidates for mayors and governors is twice as large compared to 2010.
Like four years ago, the processing of the election results will be entrusted to the company Singular Logic, and the first reliable results will be available at about 11 p.m. when approximately 10% of the votes will have been counted.
