The Regional Administration of Western Greece declared a state of emergency in the cities of Pyrgos and Ancient Olympia, due to the heavy rains that poured into the region of Elis in the Peloponnese. Currently there is a major rescue operation involving "Super Puma" helicopters and the police, who are trying to rescue dozens of people whose homes have been flooded. In many places torrential rains triggered landslides.

Around 12:30 in the afternoon, the evacuation of the hospital in Pyrgos began; also flooded was the building of the local police headquarters in the city. An 80-year-old woman was found drowned in her flooded home in the village of Litari. An elderly man was rescued by a "Super Puma" helicopter, 15 people and two families were also rescued by helicopter in the village of Dalfi near the overflowing rivers Enipea and Alfeios.

The firefighting department has received over two hundred signals for flooded houses.

Expect more.
