The European Union and Serbia will reach an agreement on the status of Kosovo within a week. The spokesman of the Greek Foreign Ministry Grigoris Delavekuras announced the news at a briefing. Greece was the first country to visit Belgrade and Pristina immediately after the International Court in Hague announced its decision on the status of the youngest Balkan country. Athens has a mediating role between Belgrade and Brussels and believes that the mission will be completed very soon. “This is not about a wish but a specific procedure that has been undertaken already,” commented Grigoris Delavekuras. According to him, the European Union and Serbia are about to agree on a common text concerning Kosovo.

The spokesman of the Greek diplomatic office also announced that Athens has requested Washington to explain the words of the U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Macedonia Philip Riker, who declared himself to be for a double name of the former Yugoslav Republic – one for its relations with Greece and another for general use. The double name is not acceptable for Greece, which insists on a composite name with a geographical definition. Grigoris Delavekuras announced that the First Deputy Foreign Minister of Greece Dimitris Droutsas will meet the negotiator settling the dispute on Macedonia's name Matthew Nimetz during the upcoming UN session, which starts in New York on September 20.

It was also announced during the briefing at the Greek Foreign Ministry that the Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmed Davutoğlu will visit Athens in late October or early November and the exact date will be reported later.
