According to German newspaper "Suddeutsche Zeitung", the European People's Party is considering to impose sanctions on New Democracy, because of the persistent failure of its leader Antonis Samaras to support the new rescue plan for Greece.

"Discussed within the European People's Party is to throw out Samaras's party or at least to stop its subsidies. Finally, as they say, New Democracy is at least as indebted as the country itself," writes in its correspondence from Brussels the authoritative newspaper of highest circulation in German-speaking countries.

The publication states that after the Summit of the European Union in the European People's Party "they are not sure that they will be able to convince their party friend Antonis Samaras to abandon his disastrous policy. The leader of the oppositional New Democracy refuses so stubbornly to support the package of cuts and reforms that this threatens to fail the national agreement, which the European Union and International Monetary Fund have set as a condition for further economic support."

German newspaper "Suddeutsche Zeitung" stressed that "the European People's Party does not want to accept that the operation "Greece" can fail because of a political adventurer of its own community. Maybe they should accept it, however. For many hours the leaders of the EPP, Heads of State and governments talked with the Greek. It must have been a nightmarish discussion. Experienced German MEP Elmar Brok (Christian Democrat) seemed almost shocked, saying that such a situation he has not experienced before."

Citing details from the meeting of the European People's Party, the newspaper wrote that "logical arguments were bursting like bubbles after the refusal of Samaras. European Commission President Barroso spoke five times, the President of the Council of the European Union, Herman Van Rompuy three times, and others tried to convince Samaras and to change his mind."

According to the newspaper, attendees were surprised by the position of the Cypriot opposition leader Nikos Anastasiadis. "For the first time he opposed his “big Athens brother”. This shows the degree of anxiety that prevails in the event of Greece going bankrupt and from the danger for it to pull much of the Cypriot economy into the abyss. Even this concern did not touch Samaras ", notes Suddeutsche Zeitung.

According to a poll conducted by MARC and published in the Sunday issue of the newspaper "Ethnos" New Democracy has a margin of 1.4% over PASOK. According to the study New Democracy has the trust of 21.4 percent of the respondents, followed by PASOK with 20 percent, the Greek Communist Party with 7.5 percent, “National Orthodox Summit” (LAOS) with 5.8 percent, the Coalition of the Radical Left (SYRIZA) with 3.6 percent, Democratic Union with 2.8 percent, the Democratic Left also with 2.8 percent, the Green Environmentalists with 2.2 percent, and the Panhellenic citizens front with 2 percent.

However 70 percent of respondents believe that if Antonis Samaras is elected for prime minister he will pursue the same policy as that of George Papandreou.

However, nearly seven out of every ten votes (68.2 percent) are against early elections, while every second believes that the government should implement the medium-term program, noting however, that it needs to be renegotiated.

22.7 percent of respondents are against the implementation of the medium term plan even if the country goes bankrupt.

"Yes" to the consensus say 60.3 percent of respondents, while as regards to the redevelopment of the Cabinet, 65.7 percent do not believe that the new formation will pursue a more equitable policy distribution of the weight. Significantly, satisfied with the changes in Cabinet are only 38.7 percent.
