A makeshift bomb exploded in the office of the Swift Mail courier company in the Athens suburb of Pangrati. The explosion caused serious damage to the premises of the company, which is located on the ground floor of the building on the corner of Astidamandos and Evfroniou streets. The windows of the neighbouring were smashed too. No reports of injuries have been made so far.
According to the police, the bomb exploded in 10:18 pm on Sunday and there was no warning call before that. The scene is still cut off by numerous representatives of law enforcement forces.
In November 2010, two members of the terrorist organization Conspiracy of Fire Nuclei trying to send parcel bombs were arrested at the offices of the same Swift Mail courier company in the same suburb of Pangrati. Then, one of the parcel bombs exploded in the hands of a company employee and the police arrested Panagiotis Argirou and Gerasimos Tsakalou at the scene. The same day, the terrorists had tried to send 14 parcel bombs,the addressee of some of which being outside Greece. One of the recipients was the French president at the time Nicolas Sarkozy.
The Greek To Vima newspaper reports that the police does not exclude a connection between the last night's incident and the robbery in Velvendo near Kozani in northern Greece as well as with the four bags of explosives, which were found in various places in Athens a week ago. The investigation of the robbery found a hiding place of the new nuclei in the suburb of Kozani in Pangrati.
