A powerful explosion at a restaurant on the corner of "Nicolau Plastira" Street and "Aghion Anargiron" Street in Nea Eritrea district in Athens caused significant damage. The explosion occurred at 3:40 am, and the police do not yet have a version for the reasons that had caused it. The building burst into flame, damaging 6 cars that were parked near it, 1 motorcycle, and neighbouring buildings.
The flames are under control, as reported by the fire service and the operation to extinguish the fire involved 15 firefighters and 5 fire engines. The police have cordoned off the area, which looks like a bombsite, as stated by eyewitnesses.
According to the latest information from the fire service, the explosion was caused by propane-butane gas, but still there are no concrete facts to indicate how the incident happened. The restaurant is almost completely destroyed, as evidenced by the photos.
