A powerful explosion shook the tax office in the suburb of Kifissia in northern Athens at 4.58 am today, causing considerable damage to the building and material damage to the cars parked nearby. Fortunately, there were no victims. About 30 minutes earlier, an unknown person had called the electronic edition zougla.gr, the leftist Editor’s Newspaper and the flying squad to warn of the attack.
The police were able to get to the site of the explosion in time and cordon off the area around it. The explosion was felt in a wide radius around the tax office. According to initial information, the makeshift bomb had been placed in a travel bag at the entrance of the building.
