The expectations appalling the most of the Greek society have confirmed in the early morning hours. During the extraordinary meeting in Cannes, Europe has faced Greece with the dilemma of choosing whether it is willing to be part of the eurozone or not. At the same time, Angela Merkel and Nicolas Sarkozy have stated that Greece would not get the sixth tranche of the economic aid until the referendum requested by the Greek prime minister is held. To all this, however, they have added the condition the Greek Parliament to ratify the new loan agreement made last week in Brussels.

"Greece's membership in the euro area is a historic achievement of the country that cannot be disputed. This right of the Greek people cannot depend on a referendum," said the vice-president of the Greek government and minister of finance Evangelos Venizelos immediately after arriving at 04:45 am.

Thus, he has fully distinguished himself from the position of prime minister George Papandreou, with whom they few together from Cannes to Athens. This split is expected to cause turbulent political events that may not allow the government to survive until the confidence vote in Friday night.

In his statement, Evangelos Venizelos has directly challenged prime minister Papandreou and in fact, announced changes in the ruling party. "The question is not in the political relationships within the country and the future of individuals and parties, but in the salvation and recovery of the country through the only possible option from the decision of October 26," he said.

Similar was the reaction of minister of health Andreas Loverdos in parliament late last night. He described the European Union as a major strategic choice for Greece and once again opposed the referendum, as he did during the meeting of the Council of Ministers, along with four other ministers. Minutes ago, Andreas Loverdos said that the position of Evangelos Venizelos fully met his beliefs.

From early morning, members of PASOK one after the other have been requiring a meeting of the parliamentary group. The young deputy Eva Kaili has left the PASOK parliamentary group. The party has already remained with 151 deputies. Her colleague Elena Panariti has also said she would not give a vote of confidence in government. Vasso Papandreou has repeated her proposal for forming a government of national salvation to cope with the situation in the next few months and elections to follow then.

According to recent information, the deputies of PASOK have already started procedures to change the leadership. It became clear that a meeting of the Council of Ministers would be held at 12:00.
