Caretaker government with clearly defined in terms of time mandate and competence is the proposal of New Democracy. According to it, the caretaker cabinet will be in power until Greece ratifies the agreement for the new loan and the payment of the sixth tranche from the bailout. Its remit will be limited to the implementation of the specific two tasks.
Immediately after this, elections, says New Democracy, suggesting that the elections in Greece should finish before the Christmas holidays. The party states that the provisional government would have nothing to do with a joint government comprised of several parties, and the president should determine its composition. In all cases, New Democracy indicates that the provisional government should not involve representatives of political parties.
At the same time, according to sources who have access to the meeting of the Greek cabinet, prime minister Papandreou will not resign until he reaches an agreement with the New Democracy party leader Antonis Samaras on the formation of a new provisional government. The same sources claim that he has authorized the minister of administrative reform Dimitris Repas and his narrow collaborator Nikos Athanasakis to begin negotiations with the main opposition party on the composition of the new cabinet.
Again, according to unnamed sources, shortly before the meeting George Papandreou spoke on the telephone with President Karolos Papoulias. From the presidency confirmed the call, without giving any additional information except that currently there is not a meeting arranged between the president and the prime minister. The meeting of PASOK parliamentary group is expected to begin at 17:00.
Minutes ago, the New Democracy spokesman Yiannis Mihelakis said that there were no contacts between the party and government members to form a government of national unity.
