We want a vote of confidence, not to go it alone but to form a national unity government, deputy Prime Minister of Greece and Minister of Finance Evangelos Venizelos has officially stated. Whatever happened with the confidence vote at midnight, Greece should have a representative at the meeting of the Eurogroup finance ministers on November 7 this year to secure the sixth tranche of the aid of eight billion euros and trigger the rescue mechanism agreed on October 26 this year, Venizelos has stressed. He explained that if these conditions were met, Greece would receive 80 billion euros by February 2012, which were needed to complete the programme for the exchange of government bonds (PSI - Private Sector Involvement 50%). The funds would ensure the stability of the local banking system and the rescue of the Greek economy.

Venizelos has held several key phone calls to convince European partners that the country will send a representative to Brussels on Monday. According to the official press release from the Ministry of Finance, Venizelos spoke with the President of Eurogroup, Jean-Claude Juncker, the Economics Commissioner, Olli Rehn and the German Minister of Finance, Wolfgang Schäuble. It is not known how much they believed his promises.

At the same time, it became clear that the Minister of Health, Andreas Loverdos, wants to immediately form a government of national consensus. He made it clear that he would vote 'yes' in the vote of confidence in today's government on condition that the PASOK government would resign tomorrow and an extraordinary government would be formed. We could not remain in power after the obvious failure of the idea of a referendum and the consequences it has brought the country and the eurozone, was the position of Loverdos.

Margaritis Tsimas from New Democracy has asked Prime Minister George Papandreou to explain the news about the fear of a military coup that the French newspaper Libersion has posted on Twitter. According to the French newspaper, the Greek Prime Minister said during the official dinner of the world leaders of the most powerful economic countries G20 that the situation in the country was so tough that he was afraid of a violent coup by the army and of a return of the junta. In Greece, the official government representatives did not provide a decent explanation of why the army chief of staff had been changed in the middle of the political crisis, and the likelihood of a coup has not been presented as an option by any of the major Greek media in their comments sections.

While the developments in Greece are not yet clear, the signals from Brussels are crystal clear. European Commission President Jose Emmanuel Barroso clearly stated that Europe had not waived its aid to Greece, but it would not be granted if the Europeans did not see national consistency for the future of the country. Greece must ultimately decide whether it will be bound by the terms of the eurozone or if it will go it alone, said the European leader.
