On Friday afternoon, a car fire in the bed of the dried up Thanos river in Astros was reported. Fire-fighters who arrived on the spot and extinguished the fire discovered the body of a man in the back seat burned beyond recognition.
The police were called immediately and an investigation was launched for the solving of the case. The coroner and the criminologists discovered that the body belonged to a 39-year-old man from Peristeri, Attica, who had recently returned to his home area.
After the police investigation, the victim's father, aged 75 years, was arrested. The presence of accomplices is being investigated.
According to initial information from the police, the culprit shot his son with a shotgun.
Then, alone or with the help of someone else, he put the body in the car, drove it to the deserted area where it was found, removed the number plates and set it on fire to erase any traces.
The police investigating the case are looking for other persons involved, who may have helped in the relocation of the body.
As police claim, it is difficult for a 75-year-old man to organize and perform by himself the relocation of the body and therefore a possible presence of accomplices from the narrow family circle is being investigated.
The 75-year-old father considered himself a suspect of the murder from the first moment, as they had often quarrelled for financial reasons.
As neighbours say, the son constantly asked his father for money, a fact that led to daily clashes between them.
