Less ministries but at the same time creating new ones, announced PASOK leader Georgios Papandreou during his press conference, on which he presented his program for the first 100 days of his government if he wins the elections. He promised “a council of ministers, which will have fewer members, it will be more flexible, it will work in a team and the Prime Minister will supervise the ministries according to a previously arranged schedule,” promised Papandreou. He also announced that there will be an independent Ministry of Economy, which will deal with fiscal policies and with rearranging economy. The economy team of the government will include also foreign experts, with whom the socialist leader has had personal contacts.
Georgios Papandreou also announced the creation of a Ministry of Public Protection, which will combine the Ministry of Public Order, Firefighting Security and Public Security. One more ministry will be created – Ministry of Infrastructure, which will combine the Ministry of Public Works and the Ministry of Transportation.
The PASOK leader announced that the state administration will be filled with people, who are the best of what they do and not with ones, who are only liked. He took the responsibility that all available high level positions of managers in the state administration, like chief secretaries of public organizations and municipal hospitals, will be chosen through publicly announced competitions and the criteria will be professional and not by the party.
Georgios Papandreou stressed that during his government it will not be possible for one and the same person to take a high position in the party and in the state. “If a member of PASOK National council wants to take a state position, he or she will have to resign from the party body,” promised the socialist leader.
PASOK’s program will be distributed over the internet tomorrow about the whole 4 year mandate. “In many European countries our proposals are an everyday practice. For Greece though, this is a small revolutions, which in order to succeed, needs to support of all Greeks,” stressed Papandreou and called for all voters to vote for his party.
