The new Greek Council of Ministers held its first meeting. "There are no winners and losers in the elections on 25 January. We are the government of the whole of Greece and we will work in the interest of all citizens," said Alexis Tsipras in his first speech as Greece’s Prime Minister, announcing the four main priorities of his cabinet, which he called a "government of national salvation":
- fighting poverty and immediate assistance for those who have no money for food, heating and medical care;
- a fresh start for the Greek economy that is exhausted due to the prolonged recession;
- creating a welfare state with fair taxation;
- immediate negotiations with the lenders to find a mutually satisfactory solution to the external debt of Greece.
     Alexis Tsipras stressed that even the very configuration of the new Greek Council of Ministers has fulfilled one of his election promises, namely to reduce bureaucracy in the state system. The new Greek cabinet has only 10 ministries as opposed to 18 in the cabinet of former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras.
     The new Prime Minister told his ministers that he will demonstrate zero tolerance for all forms of hypocrisy and arrogance and he will pursue transparency in the work of his team, fight corruption and perversion of power.
     SYRIZA leader said that the victory in the elections on 25 January has restored the international prestige of Greece that the world had forgotten until then but it has become the main topic of global media after Sunday.
