Five people found dead after a Peugeot car cut into a truck on the Heraklion-Rethymnon highway on Crete. The accident happened shortly before midnight. According to witnesses, the road surface was wet at that time due to the heavy rains that poured all over Greece yesterday. For unknown reasons, the Peugeot flew off into the contraflow and collided head-on with the heavy truck.
The passengers were stuck in the car due to the collision and they were removed with the help of fire squad. They were immediately taken to the nearest hospital where doctors simply confirmed their deaths. On the ground were killed the 34-year-old driver of the car, who was born in Katerini, a 57-year-old woman, her 35-year-old daughter and two grandchildren – a 10-year-old girl and a boy of 4 years, all from Russia. The driver of the heavy truck is out of danger.
According to Greek media, the car belongs to a rent-a-car company.
