Food inspection organization revealed new serious violations in the trade and sales of food products. Quality control shows that for large companies traded with frozen foods and false products.

One of the companies distributes sesame with animal excrements. In its warehouses were found dozes of tones of expired sesame from Sudan. Especially disturbing is the fact that many of the famous bakeries are buying raw material particularly from this company. Food inspection organization had been monitoring it for a while, “sealed” it for some time, however in a secret warehouse there were hidden more tons of the spoiled sesame. During a routine check some months later in a backing factory in North Greece were found bags of the same spoiled sesame.

Another company – violator, a famous supermarket chain was selling sunflower oil from the lot that was taken off the market in May 2008. It continued to offer the “enriched” oil despite of the fine of 60 000 Euro it had to pay in May this year.

The third company, again a famous supermarket chain was keeping food products in hazardous for the health of the consumers conditions. The goods were held in filthy warehouses.

The fourth company from the Tesalia region was selling in the country and exporting abroad false milk products – instead of hard white cheese they were selling soft one, instead of yogurt – sweet milk, instead of fresh milk – powder milk. The products were even traded at higher prices. Employees of the Hellenic Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food announced that almost the entire output of the company was false.

For Vima newspaper the minister Katerina Batzeli spoke about the strict observation of the laws. She is planning changes in the development of the food inspection organisation.
