Four polls predict victory for SYRIZA

Four new polls have given SYRIZA a stable lead in the upcoming elections. They have also predicted that six parties would enter parliament.

Metron Analysis

According to the survey of Metron Analysis, commissioned by Parapolitika, and carried out between 5 and 8 January, SYRIZA leads with 27.1% against 23.8% for New Democracy (by a 3.3% margin). Further down came Potami with 6.7%, Golden Dawn with 4.5%, the Communist Party with 4.2%, and PASOK with 3.2%. The Independent Greeks with 2.8%, the Movement for Change of Georgios Papandreou with 2.2%, and the Popular Orthodox Rally (LAOS) with 1.1% will probably remain outside parliament. 4% of respondents said they would vote for another party, 2.5% claimed they would use a blank ballot, 9.6% had yet to decide, and 6% said they would not vote at all.

Rass

In a representative survey (7-8 January) commissioned by the Ependisi financial/political weekly, the Rass agency found SYRIZA held a lead with 29.8% against 27.1% for New Democracy (by a 2.7% margin). Golden Dawn came third with 5.2%, Potami got 5%, the Communist Party 4.8%, and PASOK 3.4%. The Independent Greeks with 2.5%, Papandreou’s movement with 2.2% were projected to stay outside parliament. The rest of the parties received a total of 4%. 14% of respondents were still undecided.

Marc

Commissioned by Alpha TV, Marc’s research (conducted between 5 and 8 January) has also shown a 3.2% lead for SYRIZA compared to New Democracy.

SYRIZA had the preference of 29.6% of respondents (28.1% in the previous poll of the same agency in December 2014), 26.4% of them would vote for New Democracy (25.1% in December). Potami came next with 5.6%, then Golden Dawn with 5.5%, the Communist Party with 5%, PASOK with 3.8%, the Independent Greeks with 2.7%, Papandreou’s movement with 2.6% and LAOS with 1.3%. 4.7% of respondents would vote for another party, and 2.3% would resort to the blank ballot. 10.5% had yet to make up their mind.

Palmos Analysis

The survey commissioned by tvxs web TV and carried out on 5 and 7-8 January by Palmos Analysis, also gives the advantage to SYRIZA.

Asked "If elections were held today, which party would you vote for?", 28.1% of respondents opted for SYRIZA, 22.6% preferred New Democracy (the 3 January 2015, poll of the same agency showed, respectively, 29.4 % and 22%), 6.7% chose Golden Dawn, 5.5% - Potami, 4.3% - the Communist Party, 2.3% - the Independent Greeks, 2.1% - PASOK, 1.5% - Papandreou’s movement, and 1.4% - LAOS.

5% would vote for another party, while 14.8% had not decided yet. 1.6% would drop a blank, while 2.7% would not vote at all. 1.5% gave no answer.

Asked "Who do you think is more suitable as a prime minister: Antonis Samaras or Alexis Tsipras?", 42% preferred the current prime minister, and 33% favoured Tsipras. 22% answered ‘neither’ while 3% did not respond.

Asked "Regardless of which party you would vote for, which one of them do you think will win the elections?", 68% pointed at SYRIZA, 19% - the New Democracy, and 1% said another party. 12% did not respond.
