Tonight’s session of euro zone finance ministers was the shortest since the term Eurogroup existed. Yanis Varoufakis, Minister of Finance and Efklidis Tsakalotos, head of the negotiating team with creditors left the meeting speechless.
The Kathimerini newspaper correspondent in Brussels reports that tomorrow at 2:00 pm Greek time the Eurogroup will hold another meeting whereas Athens must submit its new proposals by twelve o’clock on Thursday. "The last time they had a Eurogroup at the same time as an EU summit was when they decided on Cyprus in 2013. Bad omen," wrote on Twitter the Financial Times correspondent in Brussels Peter Spiegel.
The talks between Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and creditors will continue during the night. "I do not know how it could all end. But over the past days, the government, and with it Greek society, have learnt that politics is not words but actions and responsibility. People are not above numbers when the numbers determine how people live," a well-known Greek businessman stated on the social networks, the basis of his comment being one of the constant slogans of SYRIZA’s supporters "We are people, not numbers."
