Golden Dawn carried out its action to give away food "only to Greeks" outside the party office near the railway station despite the ban by the head of Athens police. Thousands of people had lined up, dutifully waiting for their turn to receive the products after showing their identity cards to verify their Greek origin.
Shortly after the beginning of the action, far-right leader Nikos Michaloliakos appeared on the balcony and delivered a speech, which turned the action into a political meeting of hatred.
Some of the people who were under the balcony along with members of Golden Dawn booed the Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, the "liar" as Michaloliakos called the Minister of Citizen Protection Nikos Dendias and the "failed" Mayor of Athens George Kaminis "since Athens stinks". The other people simply ignored what was happening.
Despite the hot sun and the heat, they stayed there to obtain the products for which they had come. While they waited, they heard Michaloliakos’ attacks against Antonis Samaras, whom he called a "traitor."
"We will continue to give away food from the state funding we receive," said Michaloliakos warning that, despite the ban, his party will continue to be "in the front ranks." "We will not hesitate to give our blood for our ideas."
The provocations on the day of the 39th anniversary of the restoration of democracy in Greece had started earlier in parliament. Eleni Zaroula, a deputy and Michaloliakos’ wife, continued her attacks against Yiannis Dragasakis, a deputy of SYRIZA, and stunned all the deputies by asking him, "Did your daughter, the drug addict and trafficker of weapons, get out of jail?"
Ioannis Kalantzis, presiding at that time, replied to her, "How could you say such things and mention children? Tell Mr. Dragasakis whatever you want. You are a mother too. Do not talk about children."
"We think of the children of Golden Dawn too," insisted Zaroulia. Then, the chairman ordered the deletion of what had been said to this moment from the minutes of the meeting. However, the Golden Dawner continued by urging Yiannis Dragasakis "to remember the victims in Marfin Bank and the position of his far-left comrades who supported the Albanian criminals in order for the Greek people to be aware of who ignores the Constitution and the laws. We have no personal conflict with Mr. Dragasakis, the differences between us are ideological, but he should not come out on top either."
Eleni Zaroulia’s attacks did not omit Minister of Citizen Protection Nikos Dendias since she accused him of banning the action of Golden Dawn, along with the police, "but they do nothing to stop the contraband market, which is held in Attikis Square every Sunday."
"So, Mr. Dendias come to seize us along with the Greek taxpayers," she said defiantly.
Earlier today, Golden Dawn had requested Yiannis Dragasakis to not preside at the meetings of parliament during the speeches of party members. Not only was this request not satisfied but, earlier today, Evangelos Meimarakis, chairman of the National Assembly, had sat next to Yiannis Dragasakis while he was presiding at the meeting. Thus, he showed his support for his colleague from SYRIZA. The so-called "constitutional arch" against extremes had also interpreted his act as a symbolic gesture of the unification of the parties.
During the afternoon session, Yiannis Dragasakis stated that he was not concerned by what Golden Dawn had said about him. He then gave the floor to Evangelos Meimarakis, who was sitting on a parliamentary bench. The chairman of parliament said that his earlier decision to sit by Yiannis Dragasakis was intended to strongly condemn the attacks uttered against his daughter.
