Midnight on Friday will see the beginning of the roll-call vote, the ruling coalition New Democracy - PASOK hoping to obtain at least 155 positive votes in the 300-seat Greek Parliament.
On the stroke of midnight, the roll-call vote in the Greek Parliament will start regarding the vote of confidence in the government requested by Prime Minister Antonis Samaras. Today, party leaders are going to talk in the Chamber, and their speeches are expected with great interest. The vote was submitted on the first day of the autumn session of parliament and the discussions in this regard were particularly lively. It all began with the words of a SYRIZA MP, Yannis Dragasakis, who said that in Greece there were businessmen who were able to invalidate a law or a fine just by a phone call.
Corruption in the country was also the topic of the speech of PASOK leader and Deputy Prime Minister, Evangelos Venizelos: "Of course, business interests are trying to influence policy. But I distinguish between two types of entrepreneurs - those who invest in Greece and are committed to its fate and those who hold their property and money in other countries, saving only their losses for Greece".
Most independent members of parliament announced their decision to vote against the confidence vote. The good news for the government was the decision of Nikitas Kaklamanis, who had left the parliamentary group of New Democracy, to return to it. So tonight Antonis Samaras will rely on the support of 155 certain votes in the 300-seat Greek Parliament.
This however, does not mean easy debates for Prime Minister Samaras. He will have to convince his opponents that at a moment when Greece is exiting recession it needs political stability.
