Greece’s air force has successfully activated the missile system S-300. The first successful launch of a rocket at a small drone took place within the context of "White Eagle 2013" in the ground in the region of Chania, Crete.

Greece obtained the system 14 years ago. S-300 (SA- 10 in the NATO classification) is a Russian anti-aircraft missile system of medium range. It is intended for the defence of large industrial and administrative facilities and military bases. The system is capable of destroying ballistic missiles and missile targets.

The system, which was created in the USSR in 1979, has many modifications with different missiles, radars; it can protect from attacks, increase its radius range and combat ballistic missiles at short distance and targets flying at low altitude.

The launch of the missile was conducted in the presence of Minister of Defence Dimitris Avramopoulos, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Cyprus Fotis Fotiou, the chief and the leadership of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Greece and the military attaches of Greece’s partners in NATO.
