Spokesman of the Greek Foreign Ministry Konstantinos Koutras announced that Athens has handed a note of protest to the head of the Hungarian Embassy in Greece. The reason for it is the frequent accusations not only by Hungarian government spokesman Zoltan Kovacs but also by other officials, that Greece is responsible for the refugee crisis. According to them, Athens had committed significant omissions in the protection of the external borders of the European Union. "If the authorities in Athens had secured the effective functioning of the legal and physical security system of the external borders of the 28, today we would not have the refugee crisis," said Kovacs.
Koutras described as "ravings" the allegations on the part of Hungary, which the Greek state cannot tolerate and as even more intolerable the actions of the Hungarian authorities against refugees, which are unworthy of a member state of the European Union.
Commissioner for Migration Policy Dimitris Avramopoulos stated in a similar tone that the erection of walls and the use of weapons could not be a solution. "It is the moral duty of the European Union to help people fleeing the horror and terror of war," said Avramopoulos.
