Tomorrow all of Greece will be paralyzed by the general strike announced by the two largest unions, namely of civil servants (ADEDY) and private sector workers (GSEE), because of the changes in the pension system that the government is planning to introduce.

Rallies of the communist union PAME and of GSEE-ADEDY

As usually, the strike actions will take place in two separate rallies and protest marches - one of the communist union PAME and another one of the GSEE-ADEDY unions.

The main rally will be held at 11:00 am in Klafthmonos Square. PAME supporters will gather at 10:30 am in Omonia Square. This time however a third demonstration will take place on 42 Mitropoleos Street, namely that of the unions of professional craftsmen (GSEEVE) and merchants (ESEE).

Farmers will arrive in Athens

And while the blockades are still dividing Greece into two, farmers are preparing a spectacular presence at the protests in the capital.

Sectors on strike

  • Lawyers too will not work until Monday
  • Notaries will not work until Friday
  • Public hospitals, centres for social care, health centres and the emergency assistance will operate with limited staff and will service only emergency cases
  • Doctors and freelance dentists, pharmacists and physiotherapists will join the strike too
  • Doctors will not issue prescriptions

How public transport means will operate

Tomorrow passengers in the public transport and drivers will go through severe trials, as the following means of transport will not run at all:

The workers will temporarily interrupt the operation of the rest of the transport means, as follows:

Buses will run from 09:00 am until 09:00 pm, beginning to gradually stop running at 08:00 pm.
The electric train and trams will run from 10:00 am until 03:00 pm. The same applies to the underground that will not serve the routes in the section between the Doukisis Plakentias and Airport stations throughout the day.

Ships will remain at ports

The executive committee of the Panhellenic Seamen's Federation, which had temporarily suspended the strike actions of its members, has decided to announce a new strike on 4-5 February, demanding that the bill on the pension system be withdrawn.

Cancellation of flights by Olympic Air on Thursday

16 domestic flights of Olympic Air scheduled for tomorrow have been cancelled due to the 4-hour strike of the Hellenic society of certified telecommunications employees, which will be held from 08:00 am to twelve o’clock.
