At least 321 refugees from Syria last night went aboard the Eleftherios Venizelos ship, which is at the port of Kos and which will shelter the illegal immigrants for a certain period.
The refugees boarded the ship under strict security measures under the supervision of the police and port authorities.
The institutions in charge of refugee flows decided at a meeting yesterday that the ship would only accept refugees from Syria. Representatives of government organizations, police and port authorities will be on board the ship as well and they will stay there in shifts.
The authorities are concerned about possible clashes between immigrants from different nationalities, as happened yesterday afternoon when a conflict broke out between Afghans and Pakistanis.
The ship has a crew of 110 people and it is expected that it will remain in the area for about 15 days. Reportedly, when it departs another ship will arrive.
Meanwhile, the relocation of the refugees, who were in the park Pedio tou Areos (Campus Martius), in the Votanikos district in the centre of Athens will begin today. The aim is to complete it within 2-3 hours, it will involve police and municipal cars and give priority to women and children.
