21.40: The Greek Ministry of Finance reported that the daily limit for withdrawals from ATMs is 60 euros.

21.30: Greece’s Council of Ministers is deliberating on the features of capital controls in the country: the daily limit for depositors, the weekly limit for natural and legal persons and the duration of the restrictive measure.

21.10: Citing its own sources, SKAI TV reported that the banks will not open before July 6, and will not carry out either electronic or interbank payments. Huge shortages of food, medicines and fuel are expected.

20.55: "Eurogroup has challenged the sovereignty of the Greek people and its right to hold a referendum," Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said in a special address to the Greek nation.

Dressed in a light beige suit and in a visibly bad mood, he stressed that the bank closures and the imposition of capital controls are a direct consequence of the attitude of Eurozone finance ministers towards Greece.

Tsipras expects that these moves of the Eurogroup will trigger a backlash on behalf of Greek voters who next Sunday will resolutely break the shackles of the memoranda.

Despite his hatred of memoranda, however, the Greek prime minister admitted he had sent a request for an extension of the existing memorandum to the Eurozone prime ministers as well as to the presidents of the European Union and the European Commission.

Tsipras calls on them to reject both the decision of the Eurogroup and today's ECB decision to not raise the emergency liquidity support for Greek banks.

Alexis Tsipras assured Greeks that both civil servants and pensioners will receive their pensions and salaries tomorrow, and also that their deposits are safeguarded.

20.20 hours: An exterior ministry message says that tomorrow at 10.00 Foreign Minister Nikos Kotsias will entertain the ambassadors of the EU countries, the US, Russia and Israel to inform them about the political and economic situation in the country.

A statement of Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is expected at 20.30.

Greek banks go out on holiday on Monday, said Piraeus Bank CEO Antimos Tomopoulos. They will remain closed for at least a week.

The announcement came right after the meeting of the Systemic Stability Council, which just wrapped up. A press conference of Finance Minister Yannis Varoufakis is expected at any moment.

The Athens Stock Exchange will remain closed tomorrow as well.

Further details expected.
